“Winning Hand” is another painting to add to my Golden Horses Series. A big, doe-eyed, palomino, this Paso Fino mare has the start to a winning hand, with her lovely diamond star, and sweet little heart on her throat.

Background information and artist inspiration for the painting:
This painting is one from my Golden Horses Series. It is of a beautiful golden palomino dun Paso Fino mare named Goldie who had foundered, I’d never dealt with this very painful hoof condition before, and seeing this mare hurting just upset me so much. I put my fear, upset, pain and empathy for her on canvas. Thankfully, she totally recovered!

Background information and artist inspiration for the painting:
The inspiration on this painting was pretty acute- there were issues going on revolving around my husband’s health problems, and the never-ending red tape we dealt with that caused so much stress, anxiety and let’s face it–tension. It’s like the heat is always on just high enough where you can’t stand still with both feet on the ground, you have to shift or jump up to get away from it. Tremendous energy in this painting.

For Spring I think of pastels, bright floral colors, new growth and new beginnings. Stallions call to mares as part of the dance for mating is the wooing, and this painting shows just that. I used color symbolically, pink for the ladies, blues and yellows for the guys, orange is for optimism.

Background information and artist inspiration for the painting:
I used my favorite Spanish horse model, Paso Fino stallion Adonis, as the inspiration in palomino color. This lovely shade of chocolate palomino reminds me of how my coffee looks with cream, and this palomino has the creme gene. I love twisting titles for innuendo.
